Senior Adult Ministry
We, as a church body, are very fortunate to have a large percentage of very special Senior Adults within our church family. Each one has very unique gifts with which to serve both our membership and our community. The number of Senior Adults in our congregation is growing and a great attitude prevails. This sets the stage as we plan for the best and most exciting year of all. May we continue to dream and work to make those dreams come true. Remember the slogan: “Imagine what you could do, if you could do whatever you imagine.” If you are a senior adult (age 55 and over) and would like to become a member of any of our Senior Adult Ministry Programs, please contact me or my staff at the Family Life Center Office.
Currently, we have several senior adult ministries. We hope this brief overview will help you with any needs you have. If you have a need, which is not covered in this information, or a service or program you would like to see started, please contact the church or my office.
Minister, Senior Adults
Senior Adult Trip Ministry
Did you know that the Trip Ministry at Tusculum Hills Baptist Church reaches many families in our church and community? Over 350 different people travel with us regularly. “Wait a minute,” you say, “tripping is a ministry?” Yes, indeed! What could be more ministry than to offer an opportunity for a widow or senior adult to leave the four walls of home and enjoy traveling with others of similar circumstances in a safe and secure environment. Or how about the friendships formed by our church members with non-church members – what a witnessing opportunity! Each year we provide 1-day, 2-day or multiple day trips for Senior Adults, and at least two 2-day trips that are church wide.
For details on upcoming trips please visit our Tripping Ministry page on our website.
Grocery Run to Dandridge Towers
On Wednesday mornings, this ministry group picks up Dandridge residents and takes them to the grocery. Then they bring them back home and help them get their groceries into their apartments.
Bordeaux Hospital Bible Study
We conduct a Bible study at Bordeaux Hospital every Friday morning. We have more people wanting and needing this ministry – now more than ever. Won’t you take time to help spread the Word? We leave the church around 9:00 AM and return around noon. If you would like more information or to participate, please contact Bill Highsmith at 615-831-5627.
Seniors in Search
This ministry seeks out those who are involved in our recreation, activities, and senior adult programs who have no church affiliation. We encourage them to visit our church and learn more about who we are and what we believe.
Super Super Servers
Our newest ministry involves three teams who deliver Wednesday Night Fellowship Meals to shut-ins and those recovering from surgery. Each week a different team delivers to the households on their list. This ministry is provided on as “as needed” basis. If you know of someone who could benefit from this ministry, please contact Bill or Kim for additional information.
Seniors in Time of Sorrow
We have church members who are not in a Sunday School Class. When sorrow hits, these people need someone to minister to them and their families. If they are not in a Sunday School Class, sometimes they fall through the cracks and their needs are not met. When the person or family member dies, if they are in a Sunday School Class, that class is responsible for taking food to the family. But if they do not belong to a class, our seniors prepare a meal and deliver it to the family. These small groups serve a month at a time to there is no great burden on anyone.
